The curious paradox is that when I accept myself just as I am, then I can change. - Carl Rogers
About meCatherine whitten, ma, lpc, c-dbt
Hello! Welcome to a place of authenticity and acceptance. I’m a compassionate and relational therapist who focuses on your goals and creates the safety for your body to achieve them. Read more about me and my practice.
About me
Welcome—I’m so glad you’re here. Considering therapy is a powerful step, and I’m honored to be part of your journey. Healing takes courage, time, and personal investment, and my goal is to create a space where you feel safe, understood, and truly supported as you work toward the life you deserve.
My Approach
Therapy isn’t one-size-fits-all—it’s personal, and so is my approach. I draw from a blend of research-based modalities, including:
CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) – Helping you reframe unhelpful thought patterns.
DBT (Dialectical Behavior Therapy) – Teaching emotional regulation and distress tolerance.
Polyvagal Theory & Interpersonal Neurobiology – Understanding how your nervous system affects your emotions and relationships.
IFS (Internal Family Systems) – Exploring the different parts of you and how they interact.
Mindfulness & Holistic Healing – Grounding you in the present and fostering self-compassion.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing Therapy) - Helping your brain reprocess traumatic experiences to make new meaning and learning.
At the heart of it all, I believe in deep, relational therapy. The therapeutic relationship is the foundation of our work together—because true healing happens in connection.
Who I Work With
I specialize in working with teens and adults struggling with anxiety, depression, life transitions, trauma, and emotional regulation. My work is trauma-informed, holistic, and tailored to your needs—whether you’re looking for strategies to manage stress, support in healing from the past, or guidance in navigating major life changes.
I offer a space where all identities and viewpoints are welcome. Therapy with me isn’t just about “fixing” problems—it’s about helping you create a life that feels meaningful, fulfilling, and authentically yours.
My Background
I earned my Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from St. Edward’s University and completed my internship at Austin State Hospital, working with individuals experiencing co-occurring severe mental illnesses. I have experience working with clients of all ages and spent nearly two years in a group practice setting, providing individual therapy, family sessions, group work, and parent support. It was here that I found my passion for working with teens and adults, helping them gain insight, build resilience, and create lasting change. I opened my private practice, Blooming Minds Austin, in January 2024.
A Little About Me
Outside of therapy, I spend my time with my husband and two young kiddos. I love going on walks, doing embroidery, and I’m an avid movie-watcher. While I’m a homebody at heart, I consider myself an ambivert—equal parts introvert and extrovert, depending on the day!
